The painting uses Turner’s wet in wet technique, with original organic pigments. The top purple violet and the lower Prussian are from the Daniel Smith watercolour range. These paints are ideal for stronger pigmented granularity and intense colours. The middle section uses indigo and Naples yellow, suggesting rainfall over the sea. The work is rendered on Italian Fabriano Artistico paper.
