Abstract watercolour with horizontal colourful bars on a white background

Three Rooms Royal Pavilion Brighton

£800.00
W 680mm x H 530mm watercolour on 300gsm Fabriano Artistico paper, unframed.

The Royal Pavilion Brighton, begun in 1787 and developed in stages, houses a remarkable range of historic colour schemes.

In this series of paintings, I translated those interiors into stripe compositions by drawing the original colours down into vertical bands. Three Rooms is formed from the distilled palettes of the Music Room, the Music Room Gallery and the Banqueting Room. Each stripe becomes a lifted fragment of its source space, creating a layered painting in which the architecture’s colour histories are reordered into a blended field.

*The first image shows what the painting would look like framed in a manilla mount and a light beech frame. The painting is supplied unframed.
