In the early 1980s I was a regular visitor to the North Norfolk Coast, where I walked on the beaches with Sarah Bowett and other friends. The painting is from memory, a reflection on how landscape can contain personal history. The coast here is rugged and I have recently discovered that the 1972 film version of ‘A Warning to the Curious’ was filmed here.
