This new watercolour leans affectionately toward the work of Richard Diebenkorn, echoing the geometry and atmospheric openness of his Ocean Park works.
Diebenkorn’s practice - rooted in the shifting light and coastal character of Los Angeles - provides a gentle anchor here, as inspiration. Using a range of blues drawn from a Kramer watercolour set, the painting builds layered fields of colour in which the washes are intentionally allowed to drift and merge. This controlled looseness creates a sense of water seeping into a space that would ordinarily remain dry.
