In Borges’s tale, the map becomes as large as the empire it represents, a perfect replica whose precision renders it useless. This painting plays with that paradox, the notion that a modest sheet of paper could somehow contain, through abstraction, the entirety of a landscape, a world, or even the logic of mapping itself.
